If you are a Hunger Games fan, you know that the Capitol likes all sorts of bling to support their favorite district candidate. So as a fan, when given the opportunity to design my own Origami Owl Locket I went the Catching Fire route!

What is an Origami Owl Locket? Now I feel like Caesar Flickerman explaining the details of the game for those “not in the know”. But Origami Owl is an AMAZING jewelry company that specializes in lockets that are easily changeable with the addition and removal of various charms. You choose the necklace, the locket and a few charms. What theme do  you have in mind? Valentines, with heart charms and shades of pink and red? Mother’s Day with charms representing your children? Add them to your clear locket for the season and when you are ready to celebrate something new, swap them out to go with your mood, heart and celebrations!

For the Catching Fire Locket you need:

  • Locket: I like the Large Silver Locket, which is $24. This is a magnetic locket, so it’s easy to change out your charms, but it is tightly sealed during wear.
  • Plate: Please don’t skimp like I originally did. I am going back to order this ALWAYS plate, for $8. At the time I was looking for “Real”, but they don’t have that plate. But when I reread the series I saw the importance of “always”. It’s first mentioned in Catching Fire when Katniss telle Peeta, “stay with me”, but says she doesn’t quite catch his reply. Then, in Mockingjay, “Some part of my brain had trapped his single word of reply and let it swim up through my dreams to taunt me now. ‘Always.’”
  • Stone: This Orange Stone is what originally inspired the whole necklace idea. It reminded me of fire – which is obviously Katniss throughout the Hunger Games! The stone is $5.
  • Charm 1: Well, the locket just doesn’t seem complete without a MockingJay, right? So I added this Vintage Sparrow to represent my MockingJay. This charm is also $5.
  • Charm 2: I also chose a Pearl, which was something Peeta gave Katniss in Catching Fire and she kept with her throughout MockingJay. This pearl is $5.

The total cost of this Hunger Games Living Locket is $55.

My order came from Origami Owl consultant Paula Hebner. You can shop from her site here: creativelockets.origamiowl.com. Whenever I had a question, she answered QUICKLY. I don’t think more than 24 hours ever went by. And she took special care in sending me my locket. It came in a cute Chinese Take-Out box. Plus inside the box, it came in a faux fortune cookie that was made out of a kimono!OrigamiOwl
